Hartford Town Forest Exploration and Celebration

Quechee/Wilder Libraries invite all to discover–again and again—the pleasures of more than 400 varied forest acres in the Hartford Town Forest.   We have placed a story walk along Reservoir Road Trail for our youngest patrons.  To  all ages:  we invite you to begin to know the forest better by following our “treasure hunt clues” for Wright Farm Trail.  Borrow our many books on trees and forests, too—from novels to essays to guides.   Join us on Saturday, August 7th to share any sketches, words (your own or others), scrapbooks, photos.  We’ll meet at 11 am with Hartford Conservation Commission member /forester Jon Bouton to share maple ice cream and observations.  Clues and maps can be picked up at our libraries.  We’ll be delighted to award prizes for those who complete the hunt.

A couple of quotes for inspiration.  From Emerson: The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy even into the era of manhood.

From John Burroughs in 1886.: The place to observe nature is where you are; the walk to take today is the walk you took yesterday. You will not find just the same things: both the observed and the observer have changed.
