Each year our library boards submit a budget request to the Town of Hartford to be reviewed by the town manager and voted on by the selectboard.  Last December  the Hartford Selectboard  and town manager were considering a 10 % reduction in funding for the town’s three incorporated libraries. As this would have a substantial and harmful impact on town-wide library service, we asked your support in voicing your concern to the Hartford Town Manager and Selectboard.  The benefits of being an incorporated library in an engaged community are clearly multi-fold.  Ultimately the town manager recommended full funding of the library requests in the final proposed budget, which the Selectboard then accepted.  We are grateful for that decision and for the articulate and passionate support voiced by you.  Our background page can be read here. for a fuller understanding of the Hartford libraries’  history, organization, differences and services.  Stop in often and enjoy the many resources you have helped to preserve and extend.  We hope the budget review will be clear sailing this year, thanks to careful stewardship and visible support and need.
